A Medicare plan review is an opportunity to look at your current coverage and discuss whether it still fits your needs. Bringing a few items can help make the conversation more productive.
Your Medicare and insurance cards
Bring your Medicare card and cards for any other health or prescription drug coverage you currently have.
If you have a Medicare Supplement policy, bring that information as well.
A current medication list
Write down each medication you take, including:
- The medication name
- Dosage
- How often you take it
- Whether you use a brand-name or generic version
Bring the names of your preferred pharmacies, too. This information can help when reviewing prescription drug coverage.
Your doctors and hospitals
List your primary care doctor, specialists, and preferred hospitals or health systems. If you are considering a Medicare Advantage plan, checking provider participation is an important part of the review.
Your Annual Notice of Change
If you receive an Annual Notice of Change from your Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, bring it with you. This document explains changes to your plan for the coming year, such as changes to costs, benefits, or coverage rules.
Your questions and concerns
Think about what has worked well and what has been frustrating. For example:
- Are your prescriptions affordable?
- Are your doctors still participating?
- Have your health needs changed?
- Do you have questions about your costs or benefits?
- Do you travel or spend time in another state?
A little preparation helps keep the conversation focused on what matters to you.
